Today, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we paused to remember the end of the great war. At Great Oaks Small School, our students have paid a unique and heartful tribute to those who sacrificed so much.

Inspired by the bravery of the soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy. One of our staff members recently went to Normandy to carefully collect shells. These shells, once part of the vast expanse of the Normandy beaches, now carry a powerful message of remembrance and peace.

Our students have laid these shells by the commemoration box in our school garden, creating a poignant memorial. Each shell represents a life lost, a family grieving and a nation forever changed. As we gaze upon this simple yet profound display, we are reminded of the importance of honoring the past and working towards a brighter future.
