Vision, Ethos and Values
Vision
Students learn how to be good citizens, earning a valued place in society.
Ethos
Nurturing Growth - Driving Excellence
We use Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as a general guide to nurture growth and drive excellence.
This enables us to look at each level to find out what might have been missed or not fully met e.g. at the physiological level, we include a neuro-developmental assessment carried out by our own licensed practitioners to see if a sensory integration programme is suitable for your child. As a team of highly trained, experienced and committed teachers and support staff, administrators and trustees working in partnership with students, parents, carers and external agencies, we provide the best possible education experience. We do this by laying firm foundations for the successful futures for our students, who move on to employment, higher and further education.
Values
Be Kind – Be Curious – Be You!
Our students learn how to value themselves, others and the world they live in
Be Kind
‘No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted’ (Aesop)
We believe that the best school is the kindest school. We are very proud of the quality of our education and the qualifications our students achieve. But above all, we champion kindness. The first priority of every school is safeguarding its community; this is the same at Great Oaks, but we want our children to really feel safe. We believe that kindness is the key to achieving this.
Be Curious
‘Replace judgement with curiosity’ (Lynne Nottage)
A young mind must be curious! At Great Oaks teachers will always encourage students to ask questions, developing their enquiring minds. We expect and encourage our young people to ask about anything they want, and whenever they need, and we guarantee they will always be listened to.
Be You!
‘Be yourself, everyone else is taken’ (Oscar Wilde)
At Great Oaks we help students to develop a sense of who they are. Being proud of who they are gives them a strong foundation for mental and emotional wellbeing.
