Forest School
“Nature is the source of all true knowledge.”
- Leonardo da Vinci -
Forest School aims to provide outdoor learning experiences that will bring holistic benefits to our students. Forest School has an ethos of student-focused and independent learning. Students will be offered opportunities to experience and learn about the natural world as well as take part in bushcraft, and play in a friendly, relaxed environment where they can express themselves freely and lead their learning. It also provides time and space for our students to participate in activities that contribute to our Eco-Schools ethos, such as growing food, habitat creation, and planting trees.
It is widely recognised that time spent in nature is good for both physical and mental health. Forest School sessions provide our students with the opportunity to experience and engage with the natural world. Our Forest school staff all share a passion for nature and for sharing this fascination with our students. It also allows the students to interact and converse with one another outside of classroom-based lessons. Many amusing, engaging, and thoughtful discussions have taken place around the Forest School campfire.
Students who may have been reluctant to involve themselves with nature and the outdoors will be allowed to step out of their comfort zone in a safe and understanding setting. Students will be able to choose their activities, lead their learning, and manage their own risk in a safe and secure setting, with fully trained and conscientious adult supervision.
