Geography

"Geography is the subject which holds the key to our future."

- Michael Palin -

The KS3 & KS4 programmes of study will provide a high-quality geography education to inspire pupils' curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Teaching will equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world will help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.

A-Level students \will study the AQA Geography full course which consists of two exams at the end of Year 13. The course follows six units of work- three human and three physical. These will be assessed through examinations.

You can expect a variety of lessons with a range of activities including presentations, as well as more formal taught lessons using a wide range of resources and not just textbooks. There is a larger emphasis on research-based tasks and independent work. Lessons are personalised for all students with lots of exam practice and AfL tasks.

By studying this AQA course, you will:

- Develop a global perspective and a sense of world interdependence, as well as an understanding of the interrelationship between people, place, and the environment.

- Develop a concern for the quality of the environment and an understanding of the need to plan and manage for present and future generations.

- Recognise the need for social justice, equality, and respect for others; appreciate diversity, and combat bias, prejudice, and stereotyping.

- Enhance your employability skills for environmental and scientific careers through the use of web-based Geographical Information Systems (GIS), such as ArcGIS.

A geographical education is an education for life. A-level geography will give you an insight into issues and places that matter in the world today. Studying geography at Great Oaks provides you with a wide range of transferable skills relevant to employment.
