At Great Oaks, all students take part in core Physical education lessons where they participate in a range of sports and activities. These include; badminton, basketball, table tennis, fitness, cycling, rounders, cricket, and athletics.

At key 4 and 5 students can also study Level 2 BTEC Technical Award in Sport.  Through realistic vocational contexts the course allows students to develop their sporting knowledge and skills the following areas:

  • Investigating provisions for sport including equipment and facilities to enhance sport

  • Planning and delivery of sports drills and sessions

  • Fitness for sport including fitness testing and methodology.

Physical Education aims to help individuals become physically fit, developing muscle strength, endurance, flexibility and agility while also developing  character, building confidence and improving personal skills such as communication, planning, time management, and teamwork through a practical and skills-based approach to learning and assessment.  In additiona to this the BTEC qualification enables learners to develop their sector-specific skills, such as sports analysis and sports leadership. The qualification recognises the value of learning skills, knowledge, and vocational attributes to complement GCSEs. The qualification will broaden learners’ experience and understanding of the varied progression options available to them.
