“If you hear a voice within you say, 'You cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced”
Vincent Van Gogh.
Art students explore a wide range of creative methods and processes, supported by an investigation into the practices of contemporary and traditional artists and craftspeople from around the world.
Throughout the key stages, students develop their own skills and processes using a range of materials such as painting and drawing, printing, photography and three-dimensional materials e.g. clay, wire and textiles.
For GCSE level, students create a visual diary incorporating written annotations to explain their thought processes.
Students studying AS or A level will develop their ideas in a personalised and independent way. AS level takes the form of a one year programme of study based on coursework alone. The A level involves a controlled test and a written component to support their studies.
Art is a fantastic subject that encourages and develops students' creativity and has been proven through studies to support students’ overall well-being and develop their emotional literacy.
The art department at Great Oaks is an area where students can express themselves creatively, and develop holistically.
