“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom always to tell the difference.”

- Reinhold Niebuhr -

At Great Oaks Small School, Religious Education encompasses many aspects of the life, culture and beliefs of the six major  global religions, and other groups.

Pupils are encouraged to be inspired by knowledge of religious ideas and develop a philosophical approach to ways of belief.  Our pupils will creatively and progressively develop their religious knowledge, skills, and vocabulary through lessons designed to create understanding, evaluation, and appreciation.

Pupils are encouraged to be determined in their discovery, curiosity and understanding of how the beliefs, values, practices, and ways of life within any religion cohere together.

They are given opportunities to deepen their experience of - and relationship with - religious meaning and significance of existence.

Our pupils will work independently and collaboratively to link the study of religion and beliefs with personal reflections on meaning and purpose.  Through this, they make progress in spiritual, philosophical and historical understanding.

Pupils progressively become culturally literate.  They develop the ability to ask significant and reflective questions about religion and demonstrate an understanding of its meaning.

Through this intent, we aim for our pupils to develop a lifelong journey of philosophical, religious or humanist knowledge of existence.
